MPS / UPS + TLR2b £6,266

The Trust

Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT) is a multi-academy Trust which was established in 2017.

It currently consists of three secondary schools: Barton Court Grammar School, an 11-18 years, mixed selective school in the heart of Canterbury, rated “Good” with many outstanding features by Ofsted in February 2020 which were confirmed in its most recent inspection in November 2024. The Charles Dickens School is an 11-16 years mixed non-selective school in Broadstairs, rated “Good” by Ofsted in March 2023 and Barton Manor Free School, an 11–18 years non-selective mixed school in the heart of Canterbury which opened to Year 7 in September 2022 and as the school grows now has Y7-10 from September 2025.

Our School

Barton Court Grammar School (BCGS) is a state, selective, co-educational school with a strong reputation for its high academic standards and its caring and supportive ethos. In February 2020 Ofsted judged the school to be ‘good’ and it possessed many ‘outstanding’ features. BCGS was inspected again in November 2024 and it continues to be a very good school. The School is an accredited ‘Advanced Thinking School’ and is also an integral part of Barton Court Academy Trust (BCAT).

The School is committed to excellence in professional development and an extensive well-being programme is in place with many benefits including reduced gym membership at CCCU, event afternoons throughout the year and other benefits offered by BCAT and Kent Rewards.

The Post

Required for 1 September 2026, the Trustees are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and qualified teacher of Biology who is able to teach Science in KS3 and Biology across KS4-5. In addition, the post carries a TLR2b as you will lead the department which has several highly-qualified teachers and a technician. In particular the school requires a leader who is as passionate about developing high-quality teaching as they are about their subject.

The biology department has secured strong outcomes in both KS4 and KS5 in recent years and Biology is a popular option choice in KS5. The department is resourced with a technician who offers strong support to the team of highly qualified teachers.

The role is particularly suitable for a colleague looking to develop their professional career by assuming more responsibility within a high performing context.

The department also offers a range of extra-curricular opportunities which you would be expected to support and contribute to.

Deadline: Monday 27 April 2026 at 9:00am.  Early applications are encouraged and we retain the right to fill the vacancy before the deadline date.
