Climate Action Plan
BCAT is committed to:
- Becoming a climate resilient and sustainable Multi-Academy Trust (MAT)
- Supporting the DfE’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy
- Achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with measurable progress by 2030
- Embedding climate literacy and environmental responsibility throughout our schools and communities
Policy aims:
The ultimate vision is to achieve “net Zero” by:
- Reducing our carbon footprint and emissions
- improve sustainability practices
- Integrating sustainable practices into the core operations and culture of our Trust
“Net Zero” means achieving a balance where the greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere are offset by an equivalent amount removed from the atmosphere. This effectively leaves no net increases in greenhouse gas emissions from our operations. This is typically achieved firstly through reducing emissions as far as possible and then removing those that remain.
Strategic Objectives:
There are 5 strategic pillars recommended by the DfE:
- Sustainability
- Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency
- Climate Adaptation and Resilience
- Biodiversity and green infrastructure
- Climate education, green skills and careers
